Washington, D.C.
John D. Aldock, Washington, D.C. Chair
In October 2004, Goodwin Procter combined with Shea & Gardner, a Washington, D.C. firm of some 70 attorneys with significant strength in commercial litigation. Since then, we’ve expanded our practice on both the corporate and litigation side, adding new attorneys in the areas of financial services, private equity and intellectual property. An FDA practice was added in 2007. Complex litigation remains a primary focus of our Washington, D.C. office, especially in matters involving class actions, government contracts, white collar crime and governmental investigations, insurance coverage, labor and employment, products liability and toxic torts, and consumer financial services. Christopher Palmer leads D.C.’s business law practice; William Hanlon and Thomas Hefferon lead the litigation practice. In 2007, an IP litigation group joined the firm’s D.C. office, greatly expanding our existing national and international reach in the areas of patent litigation, trademark and copyrights.
Summer associates who work in the Washington DC office have the opportunity to apply for a unique program within their summer experience at Goodwin Procter. Every year we sponsor two summer associates for a Public Interest Fellowship Program. The Public Interest Fellows spend a minimum of seven weeks at our DC office, and then work at a public interest organization of their choice for the second half of the summer. We continue to pay the full summer associate salary throughout the program.
Our Washington D.C. office is centrally located, within easy walking distance to the Metro Center station. We’re in the middle of all the cultural and entertainment opportunities that make Washington D.C. a very special place to work and live. Our building is located next to Mount Vernon Square, two blocks from the Smithsonian Institution, three blocks from Chinatown and less than a mile from the White House.
